“My heart, O God, is steadfast” (Psalm 108:1).
Can any of us really say this about ourselves? The answer is “No! We can’t” – but there’s something we can say about God, something wonderful: “Great is Your love, higher than the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies” (Psalm 108:4). It’s God’s love and faithfulness that gives us the strength that we need to become more and more steadfast as we travel through life with the Lord. In Jude 21, we read, “Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.”We read the words, “Keep yourselves” – and we are filled with anxiety – This is exactly what we can’t do for ourselves. This is when we need to hear about “God’s love” and “the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.” When we look away from our own weakness to the great love God has for us, our hearts rejoice and we praise the Lord, thanking Him that He is able to keep us on the pathway that leads to eternal life – “To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!” (Jude 24-25).
