“‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ 20 At once they left their nets and followed him” (Matthew 4:19-20).
It was a great start to the life of discipleship – but it nearly came to an abrupt end!
Jesus had been crucified. Was this the end of the road for his disciples?
It began with Peter. He said, “I’m going out to fish”, and some more of Jesus’ disciples said, “We’ll go with you” (John 21:3).
What were they saying? They were giving up on fishing for people.
Like the disciples, each of us is called to make our choice: Will we keep on fishing for people, or will we give up on our high calling – winning other people for our Saviour?
