We read about “the fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23) – and we’re ashamed of ourselves!
We fall so far short of what God wants us to be. While we’re here on earth, we’ll never become, fully, all that God intends to be. We stumble. We fall. We let our Lord down – but he lifts us up. In love, he reaches down to us. He sets us on our feet again. He gets us started again – walking in the Spirit. He reminds us of the fruit of the Spirit. This makes us more aware of how far we have fallen away, how much we have failed our Lord – but it, also, shows us how much we can be raised up by him, how much our lives can be transformed by him.
As we read about “the fruit of the Spirit”, we, often, feel ashamed of ourselves, but there is something else we must not miss – the great potential for spiritual transformation. We can be changed. The Holy Spirit will never give up on us. He will keep on working in us, to make us all that God wants us to become.
