In our times of suffering, we ask the question, “Where is God in all of this?”
There is another question we need to ask. It’s the question, “Who is God?” – In life’s most difficult times, we need to “learn what God is like” (from the hymn, “Workman of God! O lose not heart”).
When we ask the question, “Where is God?”, what kind of ‘answer’ are we looking for? Do we come with the idea that bad things should never happen to us? Do we complain if bad things happen to us?
God’s Word teaches us that suffering will never come our way – but it does speak to us words of encouragement, words that will keep us walking in the way of faith – the way of trusting that the Lord is really with us, even when it seems like he is far away from us.
