“One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick” (Luke 5:17).
What a difference there was between Jesus and the “Pharisees and teachers of the law.” In Jesus, we see power. In the “Pharisees and teachers of the law”, we see pride. Why were these men following Jesus around? Did they want to be His disciples? No! they were out to get Him! Jesus was popular among the common people. He was undermining their authority – and they didn’t like it! Jesus directed attention away from Himself to His heavenly Father. He gave all the glory to God! The “Pharisees and teachers of the law” drew attention to themselves. They loved the praise of men. Their reigion was empty. Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit. May God help us to be less like the “Pharisees and teachers of the law” – and more like Jesus!
