“I come to you in the name of the Lord” (1 Samuel 17:45).
These words were spoken by David. They were spoken to Goliath. It seemed like David didn’t have any a chance against Goliath. The odds were stacked against David. Everything pointed to a Goliath victory – everything except this: “I come to you in the name of the Lord.” This is what made all the difference: the Lord was with David.
“I will fear no evil, for you are with me” (Psalm 23:4).
These are great words of faith. They are words for us. They are words for today. In today’s world, there is so much that stands against the way of faith. There are so many times when we need to hear and speak the words of faith. First, we hear the Word of the Lord, spoken to us. His speaking to us comes before our speaking for him. Let us listen to the words that come to us from the God of grace. He speaks to us words that will inspire us to say, with faith: “I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”
Are there ‘giants’ in the land? Yes! There are. The story of Goliath is more than a story from another place and another time. The story of Goliath is still with us – and God is still with us!
