What are we to make of the many disturbing things that are happening in our world? Are we to give up hope? or Are we to remind ourselves that our hope is not in ourselves? Are we to remind ourselves that our hope is in the Lord? Our faith is sustained by his power and his love. When we feel like we’re falling down, he lifts us up. He speaks to us words of encouragement: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble… Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:1,10). In the past, these words have been a great help to God’s people. In the present, our faith is being put to the test. Will our faith fail us? There will be many times when we feel like our faith is failing us. These are the times when we need to remember that our faith is not in ourselves. It’s faith in the Lord. When it feels like everything is falling apart, let us remember this: the Lord is “able to keep us from falling… ” (Jude 24). As we remember this, we will have hope for the future, eternal hope: the Lord is “able … to “present us faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy” (Jude 24).
