Whatever comes our way

“You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings, what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.  In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:10-17).

Persecution and suffering: this is what Paul had to face.

Will it be any different for us?

“Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”

This is what Paul tells us.

He’s warning us.

This will happen to us if we “want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus.”

Can we opt out?

Can we say, “I’m a believer, but I don’t want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus”?

God has given us “salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”

He calls us to “continue in what we have learned.”

He’s calling us to be “thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Will we opt out?

Will we settle for something less than what God has planned for us?

Let’s go back to something else that Paul said.

He said that he endured persecution,

But that’s all that he says.

He, also, says this, “The Lord delivered me.”

There was persecution,

But there was, also, deliverance.

Will the persecution be too much for us?

Can we doubt the Lord’s power to keep us,

Walking in the way of faith and obedience?

Whatever comes our way,

Lord, help us to be faithful to You.
