Free grace is not cheap. It is costly.

We preach free grace: salvation is received as a gift from God through Christ, and is not earned as a reward for our good works. The preaching of free grace points us away from ourselves to Jesus Christ, the Saviour of sinners. There is no place for a superficial moralism which says, “I’ve done more good than evil.” Our sin brings us under God’s judgment. Into this situation of sin and judgment comes the indescribably good news that the perfect Son of God has taken upon himself the judgment for our sin. Free grace is not cheap. It is costly. Think of the cost to God the Father: “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son” (John 3:16). Think of the cost to our Lord Jesus Christ, who “loved us and gave himself for us” (Galatians 2:20).
