“Purify my heart, cleanse me from within and make me holy” (Songs of Fellowship, 475).
When we pray this kind of prayer, what are we expecting to happen to us?
Are we looking for sinless perfection?
If we’re expecting sinless perfection, we’re in for a big shock?
“Purify my heart … ” – this is the kind of prayer we will have to keep on praying for the whole of our life on earth.
Often, we may wonder, “Has God failed to answer our prayer?”
When we ask this question, we should look at ourselves – and ask ourselves another question, “Have we failed the Lord?”
“Purify my heart … ” – As we pray this prayer, may we never forget this: “The blood of Jesus, God’s Son, keeps on cleansing us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
“Purify my heart …” – Again and again, we will need to come to the Lord, asking him to cleanse us from our sin. Again and again, he will come to us, assuring us that “the blood of Jesus, his Son, keeps on cleansing us from all sin.”
