Genesis 11

This chapter contains the story of the tower of Babel, and another long list of names. What are we to say about the tower of Babel. It’s a story that’s been repeated over and over again. It’s a story that’s summed up in the words, “Tower and temple fall to dust.” These words are taken from the hymn, “All my hope on God is founded.” Following on from the words, “Tower and temple fall to dust” ,we have these great words, “But God’s power, hour by hour, is my temple and my tower.”

Human history tells us about many kingdoms. They rise, and they fall. There is, however, only one Kingdom which will last forever. It’s the Kingdom of God. We read about God’s Kingdom in Daniel 2:44.

“In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.”
