When the Spirit of the Lord comes in power (Travelling Through God’s Word: 1 and 2 Kings)

1 and 2 Kings

“The God who answers by fire, he is God” (1 Kings 18:24).

“The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha” (2 Kings 2:15).

As we read about the fire of God, coming down from heaven, our thoughts may forward to the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost: “They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them” (Acts 2:3). As we think about the spirit of Elijah, we realize that this was more than the spirit of Elijah. It was the Spirit of God. This is what we need today: the Spirit of the living God. “Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Break me, melt me, mould me, fill me.”
