“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his” (Daniel 2:20).
“As for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because I have greater wisdom than anyone else alive” (Daniel 2:30).
What a contrast there is between the Lord and his servants!
Revelation does not come from ourselves. It comes to us – from the Lord. Revelation never begins with ourselves. It always begins with the Lord.
We can never think too highly of the Lord – “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever.”
We must never think too highly of ourselves – “As for me, this mystery has been revealed to me … “
Wisdom is given to us. It is the gift of God’s grace.
“The Holy Scriptures … are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:15).
Help us, Lord, to listen to what you are saying to us, to learn from what you are saying to us, and to live by what you are saying to us. This, Lord, is the way of wisdom. It’s the way that you have revealed to us. We have not discovered this wisdom by our searching for it. You have revealed it to us.
“Praise be to the name of God”: That you, Lord, should seek us, speak to us and save us is so amazing! It’s amazing grace, and it has such life-changing power. Take from our hearts the self-centred desire to seek praise for ourselves – and fill our hearts with an ever-increasing desire to give all the glory to you alone.
