Bless us, Lord, and make us a blessing to others.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin (Psalm 51:1-2).

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you” (Psalm 51:10-13).

In his unfailing love for us, God forgives our sins, he sends his Holy Spirit to live in our hearts, and he empowers us for witnessing for him. As we think of these things, giving thanks to God, let us focus our attention on this part of the Psalmist’s prayer: “Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me” (verse 12). The forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit: these blessings are the blessings of our salvation, and they bring joy to our hearts. The joy of salvation: this blessing increases our desire to serve the Lord by bringing others to him. Bless us, Lord, and make us a blessing to other people.
