Many people have a vast amount of knowledge and a great deal of understanding, but they don’t have the wisdom which leads to salvation, because they refuse to open their hearts to Jesus Christ, the Saviour.
Many people learn a lot about a wide range of subjects, but they don’t learn what life is all about, because they don’t concern themselves with the question of salvation and they don’t look to God’s Word for God’s answer to our most important question.
God’s Word teaches us the way of salvation. There is a question we must ask, “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30). There is an answer, given to us in God’s Word: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).
To bring people to the Saviour, God uses different ways with different people.
In the case of the Philippian jailor, it was an earthquake (Acts 16:26)! Sometimes, God shakes us up – to make us aware of our need of the Saviour. God’s way of dealing with us need not be as dramatic as it was with the Philippian jailor. The important thing is not how He brings us to Christ. The important thing is that He brings us to Christ.
God’s way may be dramatic. It may be quiet. The end-result is always the same – faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The circumstances change. The Saviour is always the same – Jesus Christ, our Lord.
God deals with different people in different ways. There are, however, common features for all of us.
(a) The question of salvation is a personal question: “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30).
(b) The question of salvation becomes the most important thing to us.
(c) We are called to faith and assured of salvation.
