Responding to God’s Word (6): I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto Him against that day.

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them, to the Israelites (Joshua 1:2).

Time waits for no-one. The time of Moses had come to an end. It was now time for Joshua to lead the people into the promised land.

That was then. This is now. God is calling us to leave the past behind us. He’s calling us to step into the future with him. We are to learn from the past, but we cannot live in the past. Whatever affection and respect we may have for those who have taught the Word of God to us in the past, we cannot bring them back. What we can do is this: we can build on the foundation they have laid for us.

We may not have the servants of the Lord with us, but we have the Lord with us. Our trust is in the Lord. He will be our leader.
