So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me (Ecclesiastes 2:17).
To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness (Ecclesiastes 2:26).
Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong (Ecclesiastes 5:1).
Where are we to look if we are to find joy in living? We are to look to the Lord. He is the one who brings everything together. He is the one who makes sense of it all. How are we to look to the Lord? We must go to the house of God, and we must listen to the Word of God. Through the Word of God, we begin to see things more clearly. This doesn’t mean that we’ll understand everything, but it does mean that we will see everything in the light of the Lord, and this means that, bit by bit, our way of thinking will be changed and our way of living will become more what God wants it to be.
