Responding to God’s Word (49): Mercy there was great and grace was free, pardon there was multiplied to me…

The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 1:14).

God has saved us and called us to a holy life: not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace (2 Timothy 1:9).

What comes first: our love, faith and holiness or God’s grace? God’s Word gives us God’s answer to our question. God’s grace is the source of our salvation. Our faith, love and holiness can never be anything more than our response to God’s great salvation. Where does our faith, love and holiness come from? Faith, love and holiness can only come from this: the grace of our Lord has been poured out on us abundantly.
