Life is going well, but we wonder, "Will it all be taken away from me?" We worry about many things, but we need not despair. Jesus is with us. He gives us hope. He assures us that His perfect love casts out our fear (1 John 4:18).
Day: November 8, 2022
God’s work is moving forward.
Acts 9-10 In these chapters, we read of two events of enormous significance for the advance of the Gospel: the conversions of Saul of Tarsus (chapter 9) and Cornelius, the Roman centurion (chapter 10). Saul became Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. The conversion of Cornelius was the beginning of the Gospel going to the …
Cain, Abel and Christ
Genesis 4:1-16 We read about Cain and Abel. We look beyond them to Christ. He offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin. He is "the Passover Lamb." He "has been sacrificed for us" (1 Corinthians 5:7). Jesus is "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). We read …
The Lord is there…
"The Lord is there" (Ezekiel 48:35). Where is the Lord - when his people are suffering? Is he really there? Is he with us - in our suffering? The Lord is there - these are the 'last words' of Ezekiel. What a great word of encouragement this is! The Lord is there - when we …
A Word Of Hope From The God of Hope
1 Kings 14:1-15:8 It makes depressing reading - a lot of bad news from the north (16), a lot of bad news from the south (22). Many people wondered, ‘Will there be peace in my lifetime?’. Sadly, the hostilities continued for a very long time (15:6). Were there no glimmers of hope? Was there no …
Today, if you hear God’s voice, do not harden your hearts.
Joel 2:18-3:21; Hebrews 4:1-13; Psalm 119:145-152 As in Hebrews 3, we find, again, in Hebrews 4, the words, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 4:7). The Word of God speaks of “the coming of the great and dreadful Day of the Lord” (Joel 2:31). We are called to decision …

When the storms of life come your way
Ezekiel 26:1-27:36; Hebrews 12:1-13; Psalm 125:1-5 To Tyre, God says, “Your wealth, merchandise and wares, your mariners, seamen and shipwrights, your merchants and all your soldiers, and everyone else on board will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your shipwreck” (Ezekiel 27:27). Those who are overladen by their attachment to …
The Word and the words (6): Taking Jesus at His Word
"‘Go,’ Jesus replied, ‘your son will live.’ The man took Jesus at his word and departed" (John 4:50). Here, we focus our attention on the words, "The man took Jesus at his word" - and we read on, in verses 51-53 - "While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that …

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Lord.
Paul's life was not easy. His life story was not always a glowing success story. He suffered persecution because of his faithfulness to Christ and the Gospel. He spent time in prison because he refused to compromise his commitment to Christ. How was he able to remain faithful to Christ in such difficult circumstances? The …

There’s something missing!
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10). "There's something missing!" We don't like to think too deeply about the meaning, purpose and direction of life. Many people just put these things out of their minds. They just …
