“Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later ” (John 13:36).
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:1-6).
When we speak about heaven – we must also speak about Jesus. He is the way to heaven.
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).
Our hope of heaven is “in Christ Jesus.”
“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).
We are to fix our eyes on Jesus. He has gone before us. We are to follow him.
Jesus is “the way and the truth and the life.” He is the way “to the Father.” This is more than saying that he is the way to heaven – when our life on earth comes to an end. He’s the way to the Father – here-and-now. He’s the true and living way.
How are we to live if we are walking with Jesus – the true and living way to the Father?
We are to live a life of love – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34-35).
We are to live a life of holiness – We are to walk in “the Way of Holiness” (Isaiah 35:8).
When we let our Lord down – let us remember this: “the blood of Jesus – God’s Son – keeps on cleansing us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
