Is there something more than this?

“Who needs God? Who needs Jesus? That’s what plenty of people say to us, in today’s world. Sometimes, we listen to them, and we start to wonder if they’re right. Do we really need God? Do we really need Jesus? Can we get on well enough without God? Can we get on well enough without Jesus? What are to do when such questions come into our minds? We must ask ourselves, “Where would we be without God? Where would we be without Jesus?” Can we really make sense of our life on earth, if we turn away from God and refuse to look to Jesus for salvation? Without God, how can we understand where we have come from? Without Jesus, how can we understand where we are going to? And what about the bit between where we have come from and where we are going to? What about the life that we live, while we’re here on earth? Can we really believe that there is no God, and that there is no Saviour? or Is there something in us that is always calling us to look beyond the world, as we know it, to believe that there is a God, and there is a Saviour. We may try to set aside this sense that there is something more than this world, this sense that we need something more than ourselves to make sense of our life on earth, but, we continue to wonder if this sense of something more will ever really go away. Will we ever really feel entirely at home in this world? or Will there always be a longing for something more? Sometimes, we may feel that we’ve got it all figured out. Then, it returns to us, this feeling that there may be something more than this. We hear about God, and we hear about Jesus. We say, “I don’t need any of this.” Then. we begin to wonder if we should think again. Have we really outgrown God? Do we really have no more need for Jesus? or Is there still something more that needs to be heard by ourselves, something more that needs to be spoken to today’s world, something more about what it means to have faith in God, our Creator, and Jesus, our Saviour.
