From strength to strength, from faith to faith, from glory to glory

“Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:1).

By the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are led from strength to strengh, from faith to faith, and from glory to glory.

(1) From strength to strength

The phrase, “from strength to strength” is taken from the hymn, “Soldiers of Christ, arise.”

“From strength to strength go on, Wrestle and fight and pray, Tread all the powers of darkness down, and win the well-fought day.”

When we feel weak, we need to be reminded that we are “strong in the strength which God supplies throiugh his eternal Son.”

When it feels like all our strength has gone, we need to remember that we are strengthened with a strength that is not our own. It’s the strength of Jesus. Through “his mighty power”, we are “more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37).

“The grace that is in Christ Jesus”: this is where our strength comes from.

(2) From faith to faith

“In the gospel of Christ, the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith” (Romans 1:17).

The gospel is preached to us. It is preached in faith. As the gospel is preache to us, faith arises in our hearts: “Faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17).

As we keep on hearing the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ with faith, we are led on to stronger faith.

When we influence of the world threatens to take control of our way of thinking and our way of living, there is something we must never forget: “Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:5).

(3) From glory to glory

The phrase, “from glory to glory” is taken from the hymn, “Love divine, all loves excelling.”

“Changed from glory into glory, Till in heaven we take our place, Till we cast our crowns before Thee, Lost in wonder, love, and praise.”

We have received strength from the Lord. We keep on receiving his strength as we continue to walk with him in the way of faith. The Lord reveals his glory to us. He’s leading us on to his eternal glory.
