The words of eternal life

From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:66-69).

In today’s world, many people are turning away from a life of following Jesus Christ. They hear so many people, speaking negatively about Jesus. All of this makes us wonder, “Does Jesus still speak to us ‘the words of eternal life’?” There is a battle going on, in our hearts. Will our hearts remain open to Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord? or Will we close our hearts to him and his words of eternal life? What about his words of eternal life? Will they draw us to Jesus, our Saviour? Will they draw us to Jesus, our Lord? or Will we go with the flow of today’s world, the flow that keeps on pulling us away from our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ? These are important questions. They are questions that will follow us throughout our life. Each one of us must give our answer to them. May each of us, by the grace of God, be led to turn, often and always, to the words of eternal life, which give to us the strength that we need to keep on walking on the pathway of faith and discipleship.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).
