The authority of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit

Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’ (Matthew 28:18-20).

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).

Here, we focus our attention on two words, “authority” (Matthew 28:18) and “power” (Acts 1:8).

Without Christ’s authority, we have no right to go to all nations and make disciples.

Without the power of the Holy Spirit, we will not accomplish anything in our attempts to win others for Christ.

We need both – authority and power, the authority of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.
