The shape of things to come?

We’re living in very difficult and very distressing times. We wonder what the future holds for us. We ask, “What will be the shape of things to come?”

Will things get better? – or Will they get worse?”

Here’s another question we should, also, be asking, “What kind of people will we be?”

Will we be better people? or Will we become more cynical?

What will be the shape of our lives?

Will our way of thinking and our our way of living be shaped by the Word of God and the Spirit of God?

Will we be like the Lord? or Will we be like the world?

When we read the Word of God and pray for the presence of the Spirit of God, we are praying that the love of God and the power of God will shape our way of thinking and our way of living.

When we think about the future of our world, we must be honest and say, “Who are we to say how it’s all going to turn out?”

We don’t really know what’s going to happen. We must wait and see.

About our own future, we can decide – and we must decide.

Will we say, “I want to walk with Jesus Christ, all the days I live of this life on earth” (Songs of Fellowship, 261)?

When, in our hearts, we feel very indecisive – “I don’t really know what I’m going to do”, the Word of God comes to us with words of encouragement, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).

The shape of things to come? – What are we to say?

Here’s one thing we can say, “God hasn’t given upon us.”

Let’s not give up on God!

The shape of things to come? – May our way of thinking and our way of living be shaped by the Word of God and the Spirit of God.
